Jalapeno peppers date back to before the Aztec civilization, originating in the region that is now northern Mexico city. Jalapenos were the first chiles to be smoked (turning them into Chipotle peppers), as their flesh was too thick to dry out in the sun like other chiles.
Jalapenos have an earthy grass flavor and are considered a medium heat chile - Scoville Heat Units measure of 2,500-8,000. You can use these flakes wherever you use red pepper flakes, however these are milder and have more flavor. Try adding into sauces or salsa, taco meat or scrambled eggs!
