These spices do look like they come from out of this world but they are really just the outer shell of a whole nutmeg! Similar in flavor (and not the same mace used in self-defense) but lighter and bit lemony, mace blades can be added whole to the beginning of cooking at add flavor. Used in our Mulling Spice mix, mace adds a a lovely warmth that doesn't outshine any of the spices but adds a nice balance.
Mace blades can be ground and used as a substitute for ground nutmeg, though it won't pack the same flavor punch. Try adding into a spice cake or steep in the milk/cream mixture for a custard or ice cream for a nice complex flavor!
